since yesterday I have a dead spot on my screen, I first noticed it when I tried to access my SMS, I could not touch and open the top SMS that just came in. then I tried to play angry birds, and the bird was shooting backwards. I downloaded a screen test and when I did the scratch test to see if there was field that I could not draw on, It was obvious. the interesting was when could draw on in vertically just not horizontally on that field? I think it could be a software issue, and might have to do a restore since I could draw on the area vertically not horizontally? any input will be greatly appreciated....Eugene

A reset to factory settings may do the trick, which may be what VZW would have you do if you take it in. Just make sure you have a back up of your data first before trying that option.

If that does not work, go by a Verizon store and speak to them about it.

What's a good program to do the backup with? Will it also backup all my programs?

If you are rooted than use Titanium to back up everything. If not, you can use Appbrain to sync and re-install the apps that you have downloaded.

I use MyBackupPro. It's $4.99, at least when I bought it back in May, but it will back up everything, including your settings.

Also try cleaning the screen with a good, non ammonia, glass cleaner. I've had intermittent "dead spots" that just turned out to be transparent "gunk" (sorry, could not think of a better word) on the screen.

Strangely, a dead spot showed up in the upper left corner of the screen on my HTC Incredible a couple of days ago. So far, cleaning and rebooting the phone has not resolved the problem. I hadn't thought to try a screen tester to see if I see the same horizontal vs. vertical behavior. I'll give that a shot next.

I have a dead spot in the same exact spot!!! It is basically a stripe of dead pixels where you would find the top email message or SMS. Did the factory reset and nothing. The only way to get around the issue is to alternate back and forth between portrait and landscape depending on where I need to select. Called Verizon and the only solution was for me to replace the phone (which is out of warranty). Since I am eligible for an upgrade I am just going to wait till the TBolt comes out and ditch the DInc.

Out of warranty? The phone hasn't been out even a year yet.

If you bought it used I wonder if the previous owner got it wet.
That happened to me EVO and I ended up having to get it replaced.

I got stuck in the rain and it ended up getting wet even though I tried to protect it. It worked fine for a couple days, then the left corner of the screen just started to go dead to the point it was unusable

It worked fine for about 5 months or so and just went dead about a month ago. Didn't ever get it wet, so I don't think that is the issue. Just going to suck it up for a while until the TBolt comes out and upgrade.

Is it possible to put insurance on a phone if you bought used from some one?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me.
