Hello there. I have a Samsung Galaxy A54 smartphone and I’ve been having a nuisance issue. When I power up the phone, it gets to the main screen. After a second, the screen goes off right away and I have to hit the power button to get it back on. I’m not sure what setting will work in Android to fix this. Any ideas out there?

Do you have a screen protector on? If so, make sure it's not covering the proximity/ambient light sensor. If the phone thinks it's not getting enough light, it might be overly dimming the screen.

Also try booting into Safe Mode, in case something you installed is causing the issue: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

Okay. I tried all of that and it didn’t work. The screen timeout is set for 5 minutes, but that’s only after you’re logged in that it works.

When you say it's turning off quickly at the "main screen", are you talking about the lockscreen or your main homescreen? It's not unusual for the lockscreen to turn off fairly quickly. If you have a power-saving mode turned on, this can often affect the lockscreen display timeout as well -- if power-saving is on, turn that off.

It’s the lock screen where this happens. It’s no big deal. I just wish that it would stay on a few seconds longer.

My S23+ goes off after a few seconds as well, after powering-up. Which I actually prefer, so as to not deplete more battery % — until I'm ready to use it.

I think it's likely to be your battery if its a hardware issue. Can you test it yourself?

You use AOD? (Always On Display)

If you tap the screen on the lock screen should wake it up , this is normal to go off if not using AOD to save battery
