I tried searching but came up with nothing in the forums.

The last week or so, when I press the home button or the power button to wake up the screen, it immediately turns back to black/sleep mode. I don't even get a chance to type one number of my pin... so I changed it to swipe mode. It still happens - it goes back to sleep before I can re position my hand from the power or home button to swipe the screen.

It's not every time I wake it up, but at least at least 1 out of 5 tries. Sometimes when it acts up, it takes 5 or 6 tries to keep the screen awake long enough for me to unlock.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how to stop it?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, cause is not happens everytime use the power button to RESTART the phone. Second choice, use the power button to POWER OFF the phone and then at the same time press the power button the home button and the volume up button until you see at the screen the little and green Android logo, now stop pressing this three buttons and wait. At the screen you are going to have a list of options in blue color, select with the volume buttons CLEAN CACHE PARTITION and then press the power button to proceed, finally select Reboot and press again the power button. Third choice, repeat the instructions of the second choice but this time instead of " Cleaning Cache Partition" you are going to select FACTORY DATA RESET. Take note that the third choice is a full wipe of the phone so you are going to set it up again. Back up your photos or anything important to you.

It happens to me from time to time (just press the power button again and it will be fine, or at least it is for me). Some have suggested it could be due to auto brightness being on (mine isn't) and I'm guessing Marshmellow update in a few months with solve it. I really wouldn't worry about it.

And please don't factory reset as the above poster suggests because it's totally unnecessary.

My phone is doing the same thing. Doesn't matter if i use the home or power button to try and wake it up. Sometimes, it takes up to 15 attempts before it will stay on. Keeping the power button held down has no effect when it is doing this.
Thoughts?

My S6 only does that when the proximity sensor is covered. Maybe your phone case is covering it? Possibly a bad sensor?
