Screen in car goes dark every time phone locks

I just purchased a VW that has Android Auto built in. I use a Samsung S6 Edge+. It works great, but when my display timeout hits (ie. Maximum of 10 mins), the car's system goes dark until I unlock the phone.

This happens even while I'm using navigation. Any suggestions?

Have you tried putting a smart lock on the bluetooth in your car so it wont lock?
