Anyone have trouble seeing the screen in direct sunlight? I didn't have this problem on my last phone (Pre).....I have to turn the brightness to 80-100 to see the screen otherwise it looks washed out. I DO have a Zagg screen protector on it, so I am trying to find out if its the EVO's screen or the Zagg protector causing this issue. Thanks!

yes hard to see in direct sunlight but 99% of my use will not be in direct sunlight. when you are at the beach look at the girls not your EVO.

Pre was pretty amazing in direct sun light. Until it shut itself off because it was overheating....

So far for me auto brightness works well in all light conditions. Not perfect but good enough.

@aridon, same here. I have a 'naked' EVO and with auto brightness it seems to work well enough in sunlight (certainly a lot better than my DROID)

Your phone should also be in a zip lock bag at the beach. God forbid sand finds its way into the phone, under the screen, etc. No girls want to see a phone in a zip lock bag. KEEP IT HIDDEN.

@androgk Oh really? I've never heard this before, but maybe I should try turning it off to see if it makes much difference.

Doesn't auto brightness drain the battery?

Auto brightness doesn't drain the battery, per se. The thought is that it will generally turn the brightness up to a level brighter than necessary occasionally. So it's been suggested to manually set the brightness at a medium level and not going brighter ever will conserve the battery more.

As for the performance in sunlight, I agree with the OP. I could use the Pre outside on a bright sunny day as if I was sitting in my living room at night. I don't think it's the brightness of the display, just that whatever the EVO's screen is made of is much more reflective so it's harder to see in bright light.
