screen is on all night while charging, anyway to turn it off

This is actually a terrible suggestion. Mine was doing the same thing and screen time outs were set to 2 mins yet it was staying on while charging, getting hot to the touch and discharging rapidly while in use.
I let the battery drain completely, took it out of the phone for a couple of hours and then recharged using the original charger and that problem is solved.

Doing a Factory Reset will wipe all data and cause a lot of hassles unrelated to this problem.

Wonder if the screen comes on by design, to help bleed off excess power so you don't have an overcharge condition?

that worked for me on my Note 4.Have the Developer option under General. the Stay Awake while charging was there and I Un checked it! TY!

Mine is too it's a galaxy 7 never had the problem on my s5, just a lot of other issues. Wish could help you but as of now have the screen saver of my pics coming on every time am charging. Will get the answer sure.

It's normal for it to light up for a few seconds once it hits full charge but then it should go back idle.

Sent from my T-Mobile Note 3 using AC Forums.

The thing ought to ship with no association between plugging in the charger and screen display. The default ought to be the screen off and allow the user to change it if desired.
Turning on a screen saver that stays on forever just makes no sense to me.

Go to the settings menu on your GS5.
Scroll down to the "System section and tap "About Device."
Now scroll down to "Build number."
Tap the "Build number" section seven times. (You'll see a warning that you're about to unlock developer options.)
Now back out to the main settings menu, and you'll see "Developer options" listed.

My 1st s8+ did not have this aggravating battery full display issue, but my insurance replacement one does. I use wireless charging and I wake up and the screen is still on. I wasn't sure if this "build number" trick would really do anything, but ...IT REALLY DOES ADD DEVELOPER STATUS.. So, I'll let y'all know if this works for me ....
