I have a brand new Moto X4 with Oreo 8.1.

I have noticed that when the phone is just sitting there, with no one touching or moving it, the screen flashes on for a few seconds over and over again. Sometimes it is every ~2 seconds, it flashes the basic screen that just shows the current time and battery charge state. Other times it is more like every 30 seconds.

I don't know why this is happening or how to turn off this (feature?). But it is annoying (when I'm trying to sleep and it creates light) and also wasteful for the battery.

does anyone know why this is happening and how to disable this?

thanks!

Without actually seeing your phone, this is guess on my part...

I would guess that your phone is recieving Notifications from one or more of your apps.

With the frequency that you mentioned your phone is lighting up, I would suggest that it sounds to me you are getting multiple notifications from a social network app like Facebook or Twitter or Instagram, etc.

My suggestion would be to look at the settings on your social network apps, and either change the frequency of the notifications or disable the notifications.

thanks but it is a brand new phone with almost no apps on it and I don't have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or anything like that. And, when I actually grab the phone to see if anything happened, there is nothing there. if every one of these things was a notification, I would be getting thousands of notifications a day and I don't have any apps that have notifications except regular text messaging.

another thing to note is, there is no sound when it turns on. I think with most app notifications, there are sounds associated.

any other ideas??
