Screen Mirroring or Casting?

What compatible devices can screen mirror my Pixel 2 XL?

I can't cast to smart TV's (LG, Samsung) with my Pixel 2 that I could previously do with my Droid Turbo. I get a message, "No nearby devices found."

Do I need a Chromecast device for these TV's? Or if there a workaround? Maybe an app for the TVs?

I also have a Samsung and LG TV that I used to be able to cast to and I'm unable to with the pixel 2, I think you need a Chromecast or similar device which I'm not willing to buy

what sort of casting do the TV's use? Miracast? or something different? if it's Miracast I believe there are some apps you can download on the gplay

Don't know what type of casting the TVs use. Both TVs are 2-3 years old.

I would be interested in this solution. I could easily do it with my S7 on my LG OLED. Can't figure out how to do it with my 2 xl. However I haven't tried much and might tonight. I think it just showed up with my S7 though

Yeah it sounds like you guys weren't casting before but just mirroring your screen with Miracast... Just search Miracast in the play store and it should give you an app to use

Gotcha. I also just googled "Samsung TV casting" and there were some help articles from Samsung that had some other apps you could try besides Miracast.

So Miracast is not an option with Pixel 2 unless the phone is rooted and even if it's been rooted, I've had difficulty confirming 100% it will work. Chromecast is out (for me anyways) since I cannot use my phone's hotspot to connect. Pixel 2 and Chromecast have to be on same wifi network... Which I don't have. Google also does not support any hardwire options either. I'm driving myself nuts trying to figure this out. Spent hours combing through XDA too

Any update on this? Also driving myself nuts over this

certainly not the most cost effective option, but i had purchased a Vizio M series TV during the hoilidays and just realized that it has "smartcast" which is chromecast. I am now able to hotspot from my phone and cast with the same phone to my TV...

Or just spend $35 on a Chromecast...

The 4k Chromecast Ultra is 2x the price...

Having the same issue I bought my pixel 2xl yesterday paid almost $800 dollars to realize that my all gl5 can mirror better than this new phone I was expecting more from Google to be honest , I have tried everything , I believe my solution is return it ,I have an smart TV I don't need to buy another thing to make work , beside I don't think trying to find a third party app to be able to cast is another sad solution for a $800 phone .

@juan delgado7 What process were you using to mirror before? There was a capability called Miracast that Google dropped support for a few versions of Android ago (I think with Marshmallow, 5.0), if you were using that the Pixel will not have the same ability.

I also have a Smart TV, 2 of them in fact, but my phone can't cast to either and neither can my tablet. If I had a Samsung TV my tablet might as there seems to be a feature called SmartView that might work for that but I believe both devices need to be Samsung, or at least the TV does with an app installed on your phone to enable it.

The best way to have universal compatibility for Android casting is to use a Chromecast. But that also depends on what you're trying to cast as I can cast YouTube and Netflix to my TVs as they have apps for those services but if I just want to mirror I need to go through the Chromecast.

I purchased an inexpensive Google Chromecast device for each of our TV's. It's easy to cast from my Pixel 2 XL in High Definition to any of our HD TV's.

Which is exactly what I suggested in post 12 above...

Which is exactly why I confirmed it yet again for those that like to see more than one confirmation. My apologies for not quoting your post 12 when making my confirmation post :)
