screen not turning off

I've had my S4 for about 3 days now and my screen wont turn off when i get a notification of any kind. it's not really a problem when im awake as i can respond to it, but when im asleep and i dont plug my phone into the charger it drains battery life. i've tried everything i can think of to fix it but noting has worked yet any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

I havent had this problem with mine, and this is probably a silly question... but, have you tried a hard reset?

no that is the one thing i havnt tried i didnt think it would help i just did it so I'll see what happens

how do you do a hard reset? my battery life is awful and it never goes into standby mode.

No problem! Glad its fixed. Hard reset should be one of the first things you try when troubleshooting bc its very quick & easy and fixes alot of things.

All you have to do is remove the battery for about 30 seconds and put it back in, then power the phone on.
