Screen off apps

Hi all. I myself hate using physical buttons. They started going bad on my old Note 2 so I prefer not to use them at all. I prefer to turn my screen off before I slide it into my holster. I tend to hit apps as I'm clicking it into the holster.

I'd like to have an app to cut my screen off before I put the phone away. All the ones I've found though lock the screen. I have a Pebble set as a trusted device so that I don't have to enter a password. But every app I've found locks it and I have to enter a password again.

Anyone know any apps that will simply turn the screen off?

OK. Call me crazy. That actually is the app I used in my Note. But each time I hit it, the screen locks. I also don't have a widget available for it in the list. Am I missing a setting toggle somewhere?

Edit....is the widget option on the donate paid version only maybe?

My mistake. I did say widget. After checking, it's actually in app icon in the app drawer. Just long press to get onto home screen...

Both are there..

Shut off screen
And
Shut off screen and lock phone

(Free version)

Nice app! I much prefer this to using the power button. I use Power Toggles and added it as a toggle so it's at my fingertips when I need it. Cool!

Then it must be some setting I have somewhere. With the app installed, the only two things in my app drawer are the Screen Off/Lock button and the settings button.

Right now my phone is connected to a trusted device. If I turn the screen off with the physical power button, use active gestures to turn it on, one swipe and I'm in. No entering of password. But if I use the app, do the same, swipe, I have to enter my password.

my apologies again.. i really should have gone further when I checked last time. didn't mean to mislead you.
the second icon you have is the same I have which is called "screen off and lock configuration" while I was thinking it's only "screen off and lock"

I currently don't use a password or a pattern to lock as I used to. However, when I went into the second icon, the configurator, I saw there was an option for adding "screen Off and Lock" to your notification bar. Try and see if that locks your phone. The icon looks the same in the notification bar, but it also has the name 'lock' in it.

you could also try using llama (or similar app, tasker, Automatelt) to tell the phone that when the screen goes off, the lock comes on, when not connected to a trusted device

Here's a plugin for screen off and lock in AutomateIt: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ps.automateitscreenonoffplugin&token=qNudou4s

you'll need the main app to use the plugin above: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=AutomateIt.mainPackage&token=mFYhkin8

hope that helps :-)

I set up my phone with a trusted location last night. When I swipe down on the active display screen it unlocks the phone. When I swipe up on the active display to go to a notification app it prompts me for my password.

Green Laser, you rock. That app works like a charm with that plug in. I created the rule. I had to disable trusted devices in the phone settings, but it worked.

I use Notification Toggles so I put a shortcut there to the screen off app. With the AutomateIt rule active, works perfect.

Thank you!

Great app. Thanks Laser! I was using Side Control but after testing this one just uninstalled it. I defined a Nova gesture for Screen off (swipe up) and with the animation works great.

great gesture idea via swipe up for screen off, didn't think of that
my current swipe up is to bring down the "other side" (settings) of the notification shade
may as well change to screen off and have the icon removed from homescreen :-)

so I just now removed the 'screen off' icon from homescreen and kept my swipe down gesture for other side of notification shade, but used double tap as my gesture for screen off

double tap screen and.. poof....it's off - sweet :-D

😁 Nice. Gestures are just great! I just have one homescreen and is full of them. Every folder and icon has a swipe action as well.
