My GN 10.1 goes dark every few seconds and I dont know why. Ive set the timeout for 30 minutes and it still goes black after a couple of seconds. Ive read the user manual for solutions but didn't find one. Are there others with the same problem or its an isolated problem? Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Did you check to see if auto-brightness was on?

I had a phone that did the same thing and noticed that I forgot to turn auto-brightness off.

Same here. Screen timeout time is set to 15sec, but if I change it, it does not stay no matter what...

I know exactly what you mean. Mine would go so dark I could barely see it. Turned the auto brightness off and it's fine.

I've used the smart stay and it does work but the only problem I was having was that I don't like my screen to be too light the brightness hurt my eyes. So, I adjust the brightness when I plan on be on the note a while. I don't know what cause the the sudden darkness of the screen and thus far other owners has experienced the same thing. I luv my note but its instances like this that make me wonder if I chose the right tablet?...

I have this problem too. The auto brightness is not checked. The smart stay is checked. This isn't fixing the problem for me....does anyone have other suggestions? This is just annoying!

Is there a fix? i have the same problem on note 10.1 2014 edition... Does this in games to.... Its not smart stay and its not auto brightness issue it looks like a power saving thing.... It's horrible having to touch to screen to keep it normal brightness

Edit: ok guys i found the solution, i change the screen timeout to 5 min. The dim is actually a warning before the screen closes, it allows you to touch the screen to keep it awake before it just shuts off in your face without warning.

I have Samsung note 10.1 2014, had the random dimming issue. No software fix seemed to address the issue. I found that if I pressed or applied pressure (bending the tablet) along the side with the home button I could get he screen to stay bright.

I was able to fix this by:
1. opening the back case (videos on you tube on how to do this) using a guitar pick and old credit card (no expensive tools needed)
2. I then detached the ribbon cable for the LCD (on the 2014 it is clearly marked) and firmly re-seated it.
3. Put it back together and no more dimming issues.

Took 10 minutes.
In my case it was definitely had hardware issue and fortunately easy to resolve.

I'm also having the dimming issue but I didn't understand your comment please tell me what should I do I am really very upset :(

Mine would dim after about 15 seconds. My display timeout was set on 1 minute, which I increased to 10 minutes as described above and the issue went away.

Same issue with mine. May i ask if your notifications panel at the top won't open unless you have the square assistant button?
