Does anyone think a screen protector is needed for the Moto X 2014 or the gorilla glass 3 prevents scratches well enough?

Haven't used a screen protector on either Moto X, and no scratches. Although, no promises for you. :)

I noticed a light scratch on my screen within a few weeks of owning the phone. I did NOTHING at all to scratch it. Didn't drop it or knock it. Treated it with kid gloves and only ever kept it in my pocket on its own. I still have no clue how it got scratched so easily. So I personally would say yes you do need a screen protector if you don't want any scratches.

At one time I had screen protectors and cases on every device... and I looked at all of them when I was done with them and they all looked like they were brand new. I stopped when I bought this one... purchased in the first week or two of it being released, with no screen protector or case... not one scratch... it looks fantastic. I wanted people to see the custom colors and the device... why cover that.

I'm not going to put another screen protector on it ever again... or a case.

Yeah, that's why I haven't used a case on this phone too. Why use motomaker to personalise your phone and then cover it up with a case? But its obviously a gamble you take if you choose not to use a case or screen protector. Stupid me actually believed the hype of gorilla glass being scratch resistant, so i didnt really see the need for a screen protector. Then like I say, after a few weeks of owning the phone I find a scratch! I know its only supposed to be scratch resistant and not scratch proof, but in my experience it hasn't been very scratch resistant

Thanx everyone. Going to go without a screen protector but I got a very nice clear case which protects decently well while still showing off the beautiful custom design.

Which case?

They do make clear cases ya know. People have no problem seeing the "beauty" of my phone. And if people think their screen has no scratches, I would bet my life that if I put it under a bright light and look hard enough, I will at least see a few micro scratches. I use a glass screen protector that has the same feel as the actual screen. My phone will look 100% new after 2 years of use, I doubt you'll be able to say the same.

And I guess I'm not as obsessed with scratches and "my phone will look 100% new after 2 years of use"... sorry, but they will be worth the same... nothing.

I recently sold my 1st Gen Verizon Moto X 32 gb on Swappa for $199. It was in mint condition since I kept it in a case most of the time and used a screen protector. I doubt I would have been able to sell it for that price with nicks and/or scratches.

I've gone back and forth with cases and screen protectors on my Moto X 2014. I initially tried going without as I wanted to show off my bamboo back but I just found the phone to be too slippery and dropped it a couple of times, but luckily didn't sustain any noticeable damage. So, I've got 2 different cases, a crystal clear TPU case I found on Amazon and the Hula Bumper Case, made for the Moto X. I also went back to using screen protectors as I find the stock Power Support Moto X Brilliant Screen Protectors to be very close to the look and feel of a naked screen.

Ha! I still have all of my smartphones. They all work ... well, except maybe the BlackBerry. Charging it tonight to verify.

Wow. If I had 2 smartphones I would also still have all all of them!!

Not exactly true. The near 2 year old Nexus 5 is still selling for between $210 and $325. Mint to new condition. And people have no problem selling them. Perhaps I just like to take care of my stuff more than other people. That's fine, it's your phone do as you please.

just give it tempered glass..

gorilla glass is good, but not sand/dust ressistant..
you can put knife, key or even cigarette and still ok, but try put it ur pocket within little bit sand inside..well see whats gonna happen with the screen...:o
