I have used liquid armor on the past few devices I have ordered, available at Staples near me. It cost 30 dollars but they apply it takes about 15 minutes. It is NOT plastic it is a liquid that takes 24 hours to fully harden once applied. But I can take a key to my screen and not scratch it.

I've typically use the Verizon anti scratch protectors just for protecting against keys etc. Just installed yesterday. Seems to be fine. The width cut is the exact size of the screen. I installed slightly crooked so top right isn't entirely covered nor is the bottom left. Minor thing and it came with two others. Obviously not going to protect against a drop, but that's not my concern.
