Recently, when using my phone in a dimly lit room, the screen when nuts when I rotated the phone to play an imbedded video on some news app. I figured it was just the app, but then I went to a word game and every few second the same thing happened--I'd get the AOD, over and over to where I couldn't use the phone at all. I rebooted but still had the same thing happening. (Now I'm getting worried!). I wracked my brain trying to figure out this new problem and all I could think of was to turn off the "Keep screen turned off" option in Display settings.

ANyone else had this issue with the Keep screen turned off option? I've had the phone for months and have never had the screen repeatedly switch to the AOD so fast that I couldn't click on anything. It was hard to even choose the reboot option.

You're probably just covering the proximity sensor with your hand. It thinks it's in a pocket because something is blocking the sensor.

I'm nowhere near that sensor. I was holding it the way I've held it for months.

Ah. Then sounds like a faulty sensor then. Unless you added a new covering or film screen protector?

no new covering.

I called voice mail, and while on the call, repeatedly moved the phone towards and away from face. it reacts as expected--turns off screen when near cheek, and lights up immediately when I pull the phone away. but thanks for the suggestion--I just loaded Sensors Test app (Ettore Zaffaroni), which indicates the proximity sensor is working perfectly. I'll chalk up my problem to a s/w glitch for now...
