Screen rotation occasionally doesn't work on Samsung S10 after android 11 update

I updated my phone to android 11 and now spontaneously the auto rotate stops working. After I restart my phone it works again but this can be a pain. Any ideas even they're coming with a patch to get this fixed? See that they've had this issue since they started rolling out Android 11 and that was months ago so how can they not have figured those out yet??

It is Samsung. They don't always listen. I haven't had that particular issue with A11. I heard from the beta moderator in a post yesterday that they will be rolling out One UI 3.1 to the S10 series in the next week or 2. Hopefully that will fix the issue for you.

Can try this , pull down your notification panel and long press the portrait toggle and see if these are onScreenshot_20210130-102316.jpg

I thought I'm the only one with this problem since googling doesn't give any results. Thank you for this thread!
Auto-rotate doesn't solve it at all. The only way is to restart the phone which is absurd. And after a while the auto-rotate stops working again...

Hi, welcome to AC!

Since Original Poster hasn't responded, where doesn't it rotate for you? Have you tried safe mode?

I'm having the same issue with my S10+ since getting One UI 3.0 (also on Android 11). Have to turn Auto Rotate off, restart, then turn it on again. At least once a day. Annoying!

I just got off the horn with Samsung Support. It said that the person was not an employee of Samsung but could offer assistance.
They had me enter into the keypad *#0*# This brings up a white screen with several boxes that allow you to test multiple things. One of the boxes was sensors. When I clicked
on it, that brought up a bunch. You could select Gyro selftest in a macro under the gyros output info. My output info was static so I ran the test. My S10+ failed.

They told me I would need to do a factory data reset. When I looked at the info after the reset, the gyros output is a constant blur of numbers.

Hi, thank you for responding. Yes, I've tried safe mode. It's no different from restart, gyro functioned for a while but then it didn't. The auto-rotate doesn't work ANYWHERE. I think the update did something that stops the gyroscope from functioning after a while. I used a gyroscope test app and the screen doesn't turn around. I opened a youtube 360 video, same thing.
I entered *#0*# from what the user above me mentioned, and the result is gyroscope sensor FAIL. I guess this confirmed my suspicion.

Hi, does your gyroscope still work properly now? I'm thinking of doing a factory reset too but I don't want to go through all the hassle if the problem eventually comes back.

However long it has been now, three or four days, there have been no further issues with my gyroscope at all. Or the phone in general.
Annoying putting everything back on after the FDR, but it could be worse. It could be raining.

That's all we've had in Eastern NC (rain), but at least my phone has been rotating without having to do a FDR (probably jinxed it now). At least for the last day and a half ;-)

Possible a update broke this

I'm still randomly having issues with this, but really don't want to do a FDR. Never had the issue until the update to One UI 3.0. Hoping for another update to fix it! On US Cellular in the US, with an S10+.
