screen scratches easy

My wife’s been playing intramural volleyball a lot lately and she’ll come home with sand on her and I tell her to take more care wiping sand off and getting scratches on her iPhone X but she’s the type that micro scratches don’t bother her. I told her get a protector but she doesn’t like the feel of them.

Her screen was perfect until recently and I see a few micro scratches and even though she doesn’t really notice them, it bothers the F out of me such a beautiful screen so I bought an Ankar glass protector and installed it without telling her. Didn’t even notice until I pointed it out to her.

My teen daughter the same way. She’ll have gouges and scratches on her plastic protectors and even discoloration and doesn’t faze her. So I have to keep changing it cause it bothers the crap out of me to see her reading through that mess. Quality protectors for iPhones are so cheap and easy to install and importantly full adhesive. Wish note screens were the same.

I’m the caretaker of the phones in my household lol.

All you need is a single grain of sand to scratch the screen and for a phone that is intended to also be used by something else other than your finger - I'm putting a screen protector. :) Personal preference of course - not everyone feels the need for one. It puts my mind at ease.

Three weeks in and this thing has been treated as gentle as my newborn daughter yet it has scratches on the screen!

Have had this before with the odd phone seem to scratch so easy

Any tips can light scratches be buffed out some crap online about baking soda!

This further enforces my reason for using flip cases such as Samsung's LED flip cover I'm using on my Note 9. Yeah, open cases are much more appealing, and some might argue adding a screen protector, but I don't want anything taking away from my screen's color, and screen protectors can also be scratched.

Though nothing is impossible, In all my years of using flip covers with my phones - S3, S5, S7 Edge, and now Note 9, I've never had a screen scratch (knocks on wood :))

like someone said I would never risk scratches on any device I know. I have Spigen rugged plus whitestone on. it's minimalist and offers good protection

Gorilla Glass 5 is harder to break if dropped but scratches easier. I dropped my Nokia 8 twice on a hard floor screen down and not a single crack but there was very fine scratches seen under bright light. I also think sometimes dirt or pocket lint can rub against glass and scratch it. Sand is one of the worst to scratch a screen. This is why i hate all glass phones

Scratches more easily than what, and what makes you think so?

It's true that a change that makes glass more resistant to cracking also makes it somewhat more susceptible to scratching, and vice versa. But that doesn't mean that one kind of glass can't be both more crack-resistant and more scratch-resistant than another.

Sorry about your problem. I loved rocking my phones naked before as well. Hate scratches and they will appear if not careful.

Now I use a wet application screen protector. IQ Sheilds seems to work the best because they are case friendly to most cases I've used, and I use various.
Yes, it's somewhat of a pain to install them. But I've perfected the process by putting them on for friends and family and now can't do without.
Touch sensitivity hasn't been an issue at all even with the Spen, no left over trails either.
And they are so (inexpensive.)
$7.99
Eurpmask is another that I've used.
Give it a shot and just have a little patience, it will pay off.

White Stone Dome, I just won't do.
Something about glueing a screen to my phone just isn't my cup of tea.

Not saying it isn't another option for you, but just isn't for me.
Good Luck.

I have a glass screen shield and it's sticky on the sides to keep it on. Is that ok for the screen?

have added a screen protector from Amazon. I didn't do bad putting it on. just like the naked look and feel.

the "scratch" is weird it's more like a mark it's as if it's on the top coating. I would swear it would rub off, but it won't! 😁

I beg to differ...Gorilla Glass 3 is the best they ever made! There are phones out there with GG3 on them that have zero scratches after years of use because the glass was harder. This of course means that it can shatter easier if/when dropped. But GG5 is crap for scratch resistance. Google it and read.

When I sold my Note8 recently after a year of use (with no case or screen protector), its GG5 screen also had zero scratches.

Google it and read.
Googling it just turns up tons of unsupported claims. Do you have a pointer to actual evidence? If so, it would be appreciated.

My S9+ has zero scratches and had since launch. I expected some, but I use the S9+ with Gear VR, and not a scratch visible. They would stand out like a giant snake with Gear VR. S9+ is now used for Gear VR and back up for my N9 512.
My previous note 8 that I owned for 1 year without any screen protectors and I dropped it twice had absolutely no scratches on the screen

Does it blow your mind that people buy $1k phones at all, considering that even with a case and screen protector, phones can and do get damaged?

The fact is that the risk levels differ significantly from person to person, as does tolerance for risk. Some people have already dropped their Note9 repeatedly; others will go for a year without dropping it. Some can afford repairs, others not. So it's hardly mind-boggling that different people arrive at different reasonable decisions about what fits their own circumstances.

Well yes, yes it does LOL It's pure insanity and we have two $1000 phones :o All good points that you made. I just, personally, just can't see anyone taking the chance.

I know people do it, but it just blows my mind that anyone would buy an expensive device like this and NOT put a case and screen protector on it immediately. With the N9, I had to wait like 4 or 5 days to get to the city and have Best Buy apply a Zagg screen protector. I kept the packaging film on it till I could get the screen protector. In a perfect world, it I'd love to carry my phone with no protection but the world isn't perfect and stuff happens :o

For me paying this much and putting a screen protector on it ruins the experience of the beautiful display. A case yes but screen protector is a no go for me.

I have to agree with a few folks on here. The lessor Gorilla glass like 3 was the best. The rest is simply hype for stronger this and scratch resistant that and is no where IMO as good. Even 4 maybe but 5 and 6 ........=BS!

I'm not taking any chances. put a tempered glass screen protector on.
