Screen times out while talking to text/email

So this is a little annoying because I use talk to text a lot but I have my screen timeout of 30 seconds however talking to text beyond 30 seconds the screen will timeout and the text will stop until I wake the screen back up--- you would think it would know and be smart enough if actively talking to text similar to typing and therefore keep the screen on but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I even have the smart stay on and it still does this with me. It doesn't seem that the smart stay is working at all no matter what I'm doing.

I have found Smart Stay to not be very smart. I set my screen to 5 minutes. Battery performance is so strong that this has not created a problem for me.
