At night or evening I am finding the screen to be way to bright when set on either auto or manual. I have to use a app called screen filter to dim the screen more. Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions?

When I pull down the quick buttons and press the brightness button twice, my screen goes really dim and works fine for me at night. When I want it back to normal, I tap it 3 times and its back to daylight bright....

Get this. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../details?id=com.vito.lux&hl=en&token=0fmmZ8Fy I had the exact issue and this addresses it and some. It can actually go lower than zero which isn't even possible with the native phone settings. I set it at -50 for night time reading.

Does this work without root? On my last phone, I used another dimmer app but all the ones I found to go below the default minimum required root access. I had root on that and loved it. I'm sticking to Screen Filter on the M8 for now because it's not rooted.

Lux app dosent require root but I find it very confusing to use. The quick buttons and turning off brightness works well when indoors but in a very dark room it's still to bright. I find the screen filter app the best but I am just suprised the phone dosent dim more in a dark room. When lollipop comes out we will get a brightness slider which will help.

I use an app called Screen Filter. Does the trick. Easy to use especially turning on and off.

It's not that confusing at all. If you don't like the auto settings that Lux has all you have to do is click the icon. A pop up menu shows up. Use the slider to manually change it and set that as a link. The more links you have the more Lux adjusts to the brightness you want in a particular situation ie. night time. It even has a native day and night mode that adjusts automatically based on the time of day.

I use both Lux and Twilight.

Lux allows you to customize display brightness relative to ambient light to your personal preferences.

Twilight lets you set the display "temperature", and has a night feature that only activates it around sunset rather than all day.

Colder Blue light is said to be disruptive to your body's sleep mechanisms, and has been related to wakefulness when folks use their devices before turning out the lights. Warming up the screen's light towards the red is supposed to eliminate this effect.

I can't say that I had difficulty falling to sleep prior to using Twilight. But I find the warmer display somewhat calming and easier on the eyes.

Perfect explanation. It's a great app......

I bought Lux and so far so good. I like having easier and more control over the brightness. I was carpooling with a friend and in the morning my screen was so bright I had to turn off the Auto and adjust it as low as possible. I like with Lux I can make some links and have it adjust according to my settings. Nice app.

Neo905 you are spot on after playing with Lux it's quite impressive. When ever the screen is to bright I just move the slider press the link button and Lux learns that next time it will adjust the screen to my liking. Thanks.
