screen turns on when i receive a message.

You have 3 choices
1) Use SMS Popup from the Play Store: http://tinyurl.com/d9997we
2) Install a 3rd party messaging app like GO SMS Pro: http://tinyurl.com/brebaz2 (You will need to disable the notification of the stock app)
3) If you are rooted you can use this mod for the stock app: 11/17/ link up/Disable SMS screen-On Notification - xda-developers

Go into settings and under lock screen disable pop up note. Maybe that will help. You can always try tweeting @samsunghelp. They usually respond. On my htc the option was under the sms settings. First time with a Samsung.

i know on chompsms, which i use religiously, its an option to turn screen on with msg... i like the feature, but that's just me...

On my evo 3d the screen wouldn't turn on, but onces I wanted to read the message it shows up on the lock screen. That I miss now.
