Screen waking for text message

OK need some help or info if anyone has any please. I use verizon messages for my texting and just recently everyone I receive a text it is waking my screen. It used to not and I haven't changed any settings at all. I use the always on display and I would get a text it would just show up on the message count for the AOD. Now every single time it wakes my screen to the lock screen then goes back to the AOD quickly after. Anyone have this or know how to stop it? I see nothing that has a setting for waking the screen for this

It's an issue with the Verizon Message+ app. For the time being, I've started using Textra instead.

I hope they fix it, as I really liked Message+.
