Has anyone noticed, while holding in portrait mode, if their screen is whiter on the left side than on the right. My screen has this issue, its minor but enough to bother me some. I noticed while watchimg youtube video reviews of the nexus 7, that this may be common. I dont know if this is normal for lcd, just want to get a feel from other nexus owners! Thanks

You mean like backlight bleed or something else. I think they all have a little backlight bleed so that's probably what your seeing.

I assume its s little bleed on the left side. Do you have the same issue on your screen? Is this common with lcd?

Yes! And I'm not quite sure what to do.....I got it at Walmart so I can easily return it. When I run screen tests, all white, its barely perceptible. As if the screen needs to display something for it to really stand out. I'm hoping I can see a demo model at Staples or some other location to see if the same thing is present.

Ya, let us know ;f you see any demos if thy have to same issue. I searched plenty of youtube videos and noticed that they had the same lighting issue. Check out Eric Franklins review from CNET, his definitely has it. I read his written review too, and he praises the Nexus' screen. Which is pretty cool cause he is usually critical of anything non apple.

While I was trying to figure this out, I took a closer look at my Xoom to see if something similar was happening that I might have ignored. What I found surprised me. Held in landscape mode, which I think most everyone does with the Xoom, there is no bleeding apparent. When you look at it in portrait, roatated a quarter turn clockwise, there is very obvious backlight bleeding on the left edge. This is obscured in landscape because the bottom edge is shaded a dark gray by the UI.

Your observation is both interesting and impressive sir! Lol Thanks for checking. When I am in landscape mode on the Nexus
I dont notice the color difference, in portrait I do notice. Thanks for checking. There is a great post in the "check if your backlight is bleeding forum. One of the lasts posts, a gentlemen has a thorough explanation of his thoughts on the screen. It made me feel better and set my mind at ease.

After reading that I tried increasing my brightness to close to 60 percent. And the brightness unevenness was improved moderately. Up to that time I had brightness set to about 33%.

I'll give that a shot. I usually don't increase the brightness that much because I'm indoor when using the nexus.

Staples did have a demo model in the store I visited today and there was no grayish shading of white on the right side. Screen looked perfect. It was a 8 gig model....no 16 in stock. But my Wal-Mart unit is going back.

At low backlight levels it will probably be more pronounced. The LEDs that light the backlight are points of brightness and then diffuser filters attempt to even out the light. At brighter levels you will get enough reflection to fill the screen with enough light to hide the problem.

I just tested mine at low and medium in a dark room and saw no difference left to right. If your screen is noticeably brighter on one side the backlight LEDs on the other may be defective or not calibrated properly with the other lights. Only you can decide if it's a big deal.

Office Depot had the 16 gigs in stock. The screen on this one does not have the problem I described.

I had this problem when I first got mine and it went away in a few hours. Been fine since.

So you had similar screen issues and it away after a week?

No, I ended up returning it to Walmart. Bought another at Office Depot and the screen issues we talked about are gone.
