screen won't stay asleep

So for some reason the tablet won't stay asleep, i push the power button on the back to put it to sleep and then lay it down on a table or whatever and it randomly turns the screen on for a second or 2 then turns back off. This continues constantly and I cannot find a reason why, I have the wi-fi turned off in setting to save power but it doesn't matter if it is on or not still does it. I am up to date on all updates and am running ICS that was pushed months ago. Everything else works fine but it's killing my battery. Anyone have this problem or know of a solution?

First try soft reboot with holding power and volume up till it reboots.

Do you have any screen locking apps installed? Uninstall those but make sure you go to settings, security, device administrators and clear any check boxes for screen lock apps. After uninstall reboot again with same method.

If nothing you might want to consider a hard reset.

Check your wifi. When it loses connection it will turn the screen on.

The same thing is happening to me. I'be turned off the wifi but its still continues. Very annoying. Wondering if I need to get a replacement

maybe you have video running, i have a app that plays the video, when I pause the video, the screen wont' go to sleep mode
