Just started using a screen saver today, set it to display my photos. Does this typically pull more battery power than not using one?
 
I would assume so. The point of AOD is so you can see the time, calender, pictures, whatever you choose, but only the required pixels are lit. More pixels lit - more battery used.
 
Yes, using a screensaver will use more battery than not using a screensaver.
 
Yes it chews much more battery than the normal AOD option. Only practical I have for screensaver is in conjunction with my wireless charger where I use it as a bedside clock.
