Screenshot not working

Ever since the sprint OTA update to Android 8.0 a few months ago, my screenshot function won't work. If I hold power and volume down, after a few seconds the Back and App buttons start to flash (from holding power so long).

I can't find any way to reset or enable this. Anyone know a solution?

I'm taking a screenshot by pressing power button and fingerprint scanner.

I've never, ever taken a screenshot this way. I've always done what Brnrd said (power + home) or set up my long squeeze w/ Edge Sense (way easier).
