Does anyone know if I'll be able to take screenshots on my Evo like you can on the Iphone?

Thanks!

The HTC Incredible couldn't do it natively on 2.1, so I'd assume that the EVO can't do it, either. However, I'm sure a software update (perhaps 2.2) will fix this obvious omission.

I use this all the time on my iPhone to send picture messages of things on my phone I want someone else to see....

If its not possible with the stock 2.1, is there an app or workaround to enable it?

Yes you can, you don't have to be rooted, but you need a computer with the SDK installed. Once root is obtained, then you can download the app ShootMe and take screen shots that way. Here's how to do it on the computer:
Plug in phone, make sure USB debugging is turned on
Open up the SDK folder
Open up the tools folder
find a program in there called ddms and double click it
select the phone from the list on the left then select Devices from drop down menu and Screen Capture. Sounds like a pain, but it really isn't.

it is a pain because you need to be near a computer thats yours (cuz you cant just install whatever you want thats not yours, ie work, friends computer, etc etc) to install the stuff and do it.

frankly, the times when i do screenshots, im not near a computer. is this a dealbreaker? no but rather careless on googles part.

someone must have made an app or something by now since android is open source.

Yes, as I mentioned, Its ShootMe, but it requires root access. Something you won't have for a bit (if at all).

Just read an article that says ShootMe works on the Evo WITHOUT ROOT! I downloaded it, and sure enough, now I can take screenshots without needing to hook it up to my PC.

Article can be found here.

Sweet!
