Screw the D-Pad

The keyboard is easily the worst feature of the Droid, being far too offset to the left by the chin and the pad. The intelligent approach would have been to put the pad on the side opposite the chin. In the current configuration typing is very awkward and painful in my right hand.

I get by using the virtual keyboard, but this has its own set of bugs. When registering for this forum, ironically, I had multiple problems with mismatched passwords, not to mention the virtual keyboard moving on to unnecessary fields (from password confirmation to search for example) which can't be viewed while in VKB mode.

Back to the D-pad: so far it's worthless for anything besides reorienting the cursor on rare occasions.

I like the physical keyboard and the D-pad. Hell, the physical keyboard and D-pad were one of the main reasons I bought the Droid. I have pretty big hands and can still type comfortably on the keyboard and the D-pad works great for emulators.

Now that the "Smart Keyboard" offers arrows for cursor control,I can't imagine ever sliding out the physical keybaord. The only reason I used it was to use the d-pad for text editing b/c the tap methodology was impossible due to my "FAT FINGERS".

I don't touch it until I need to edit text using the screed makes placing the courser a pain in the butt. I've gotten used to the offset keyboard

This is the exact issue that the Smart Keyboard solves. It has arrows for moving the cursor.
