so downloading mp3 to listen to later and FF asks which action to take, download, or use samsung player, google player or sound player.
I figured sound player was a simple app so selected it as 'always'.

Discovered the app say does not play this format of mp3. So now thinking ok, find app change settings. Only now in my app list there is no 'sound player'. So now what and how can one changes the 'always' settings?

Some pickle, I know. Probably never happened to anyone. But I managed to find a app that now can't find or am not looking for in the right location.
So any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
I'm hoping it's a 'duh' moment once someone chimes in.

Thanks...

Go to Settings>Apps, then tap Menu>Show System, and now look for Sound Player.

If you still can't find it, you can always go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu, then Reset All App Preferences.

I agree with reset app preference
Settings>apps>3 dots upper right corner tap>scroll to app preference.

So followed instructions and reset ALL permissions per default. Tested again.
Fail.
I get a small box and top left has letters, "WP". Hit play, no response then maybe 20 seconds later say does not support this type of file.
So maybe I'm looking for a different player?

Hey thanks btw, cause I was dianbread last night did not think of looking at the menu.
I'll play around some more.

Is it just that particular mp3 that won't play, or does it not work for any mp3? It might just be that particular file -- maybe it's not a true mp3 file, or maybe it still has some DRM.

Ah so yes, I did download the MP3 on laptop and VLC played it with no issues.

VLC might have more codecs than what's on your phone. What if you install VLC on your phone?

Using DEX to laptop and tried to set Samsung Player and Google Player as default.
Trying to remove the other one.
Well neither one gives me the option to set as default. It's grayed out.

Downloaded VLC. Went to try MP3 and no options to select play.
SO whatever I selected last night is it. sigh.......

Well Ph*q...it......many thanks for all the ideas......go let it go for the day and consider reset the phone.
Gonna move all personal files to laptop Then proceed.
I'm pissed at myself for this so.....Sat. is another day.....
Hey you folks have a great weekend...!

Sorry about the frustration! I suggested installing VLC on your phone just to see if it can pay that mp3 file in the first place -- what happens when you do that?

HEH....installed VLC and plays everything well but the MP3 because the default is set.
Did a quick phone reset and still the same.
So did a full back up.
Just finished the factory reset and am in the restoration process.
Man this was painful....lol.....
We'll see in a few hours once 18 months worth of setup and use is back to nearly normal...Ha....
Will keep ya posted....Thanks for ideas......!!

OK, let us know

Alrighty folks so am sharing my "manly skills of quickly pushing buttons" w/o thinking.....OUCH...!!!!
Did a soft reset, went to test, same thing.....
So hooked up phone to laptop, did full back up.
Performed factory reset and just now finished up.
Performed test and here's what I now get for MP3 playing Options:
FF download, Google Play, Samsung Music, VLC and Sound Player.
So the icon for Sound Player is a blue image with a single music note and below the title is Sound Player.
Here's what kicked my butt. No where in the Apps settings did this App ever show up. Even using the menu for hidden apps. So there was no access therefore no way to change the default settings.

Now that it has a factory fresh reset, gonna go look for it and see if I can delete this sucker out of sheer spite...lol.....after all this heartache no way it'll ever get selected again....lol.

So, that's it, happy ending.....all is well.......
And again thanks to all those that jumped in with great ideas.......
Hope others learn from my mistake.
Y'all have a grand weekend......
on edit-went to show system apps and found 'sound picker' same icon as the sound player when selecting a mp3 and the choices pop up. (note it was not there earlier until the factory reset was done)
Did a forced stop. Other then the App settings have no idea where it's located so it can be removed.
Anyone care to share where it's hidden? lol...I wanna kill it bad....Ha......
