Scrolling, not laggy but not smooth

is this just how it works? because its not really lag its almost like it needs to be just set to stay at a certain speed. it goes super fast then slow

this happens in browser and just the app drawer

it reminds me of how pc games without vertical sync perform at 60fps then 30 and so its noticeable. if it just stayed at steady speed of scrolling it would seem much smoother and would allow way better usability

any thoughts or way to change this?

i have this same problem. it scrolls quickly and then it slows (as if the fps rate drop or something). its annoying and just not cohesive. i thought it was only me until i saw this thread

If your experiencing slow downs or lag, do a factory reset. The best advice is always starting fresh with a new OS update. I don't experience this at all, but also remember that the Evo is capped at 30fps. So this may be the cause on some things.

The problem:
The Evo has a 30 fps cap.

If you root, you can find a dirty fix that gets your phone up to average of 50 ish fps.
That's what I did. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm on my phone right now.

Let me tell you though... After going to 50 fps, I cannot go back. Scrolling is super smooth.

The 30 fps cap also produces a touch input lag, making the phone feel even slower. Go to youtube and search "htc evo touch input lag" .

Update: I rooted and have been running roms without the cap and it definitely helps eliminate this lag

I also am using launcherpro now and that has helped the application drawer lag

The browser still has a bit of inconsistencies but I set plug ins to on demand and it improved drastically. Flash Is definitely a culprit of lag

Thanks all for great suggestions

I agree too. My phone doesn't lag, but scrolling is not completly smooth, even after froyo.

yea mine is not smooth either.....will root after offical update is out for us who installed the leaked version.

Others argue, but the frame rate cap really is causing this and try out a non capped ROM and it will be very smooth.

I would love to try out some of these ROMs that up the frame rate, but rooting seems like such a difficult and dangerous process. When I first got my EVO I rooted with unrEVOked and installed a few non-market apps. Had lots of problems with the phone after that and ended up doing a factory reset. Haven't tried to root again since. The thought of bricking "my precious" is not appealing, at all.

I would love for HTC to come out with an update that bumps this cap up to at least 40-50 fps. We know it's do-able, as can be seen in these other ROMs. So why won't HTC just fix this?

Hey, so today I was comparing my phone to my roommates iphone and realized how much better his scrolling was. I started doing some research and found your comment, that you had got the cap up to around 50fps. How did you do that? I'm currently running CM6 on the snap 7.6 kernel. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what that kernel does, but I've currently running VaelPak 2.2 with the Kings #10 kernel and I get suppppppppppppper smooth scrolling... have since Kings #8 well before HTC took the cap off..

If you want the kernel go here: KingxKlick Forums • View topic - [KERNEL] [2.6.32.15] [HAVS] [BFS] KiNgxKernel #10/#10

Some people's EVOs didn't like #10 (works perfect for me) so if it is wonky flash #9 or #8.

Man, I have had no luck with the King kernals. I love Vaelpak tho!

Official ROM has fps fix, so smoothness for all. To add : Yes it made a huge difference in tough input lag and smoothness of the whole system.
