SD 810

I think the m9 was blasted more for the aesthetics, black bar and camera then the 810. and that was 9 months ago, so the chip has gone through some changes, which is why we expect things to be different. I don't think it's gonna blow up in anybody's hand or cause any noticeable difference.

as far as "the best thing ever" ... stock with no carrier or OEM interference is what's most appealing to Nexus fans, not processors. and don't most people think their phone is the best ever? I mean, if they didn't, they'd have bought whatever phone they thought was.

I'm not discounting your opinion though, none of us know for sure. as you said, we shall see.

Yeah it's definitely we shall see and I'm hopeful it'll work well but also note that pretty much all phones with the 810 are using the version 2.1 (including the m9). So there really aren't any changes to the soc itself.

I didn't fully understand some of the terminology used, but isn't the fact that the Mi Note Pro has a higher display resolution relevant? It sounds like what they were testing was real world use, not benchmarks. Which is what you want in a review of a device, but only tells you so much about any one component because a device has a ton of things going on that make it hard to judge one part by itself.

I do generally think Anandtech does a good job though, so I may just be misunderstanding exactly what they were doing.

I just don't understand that if the 810 was known for overheating why would Google allow Huawei to put it in their flagship phone, unless they have fixed the issue for the 6P. Time will tell I guess when people have it.

yeah there's a lot of blind faith being practiced! I just can't imagine they'd use it if it wasn't tested. think about it, this is Hauwei's first US launch, and any major issues would immediately tarnish their brand. I wouldn't think both Google and Hauwei would risk that, when they could've went with the 808, used the kirin 950, or even waited 6 months and just spread the 2 Nexus phones out (something I personally wouldn't have been opposed to).

I believe last SD 810 is v.2, which has fixed issue with heating. And it is good now for devices.

A lot of complaining over at the one plus 2 forum about over heating.

no there's not, I mean, that's simply just not true. of the 30 most recent topics, only one is about heating. and that has just 2 replies from people that don't even own one.

if it was an issue, I think there would be a bit more noise than that.

Just a concern I've ordered one hope it is all good

I'd imagine any heating issues were fixed right AFTER Samsung said they weren't using it... That was an expensive wake up call.

In internet speak this issue translates into "Ima mad cuz I R not eligible to upgrade to a new phone with t3h latest Snapdragon so Ima gonna hate on it and say it still haz probs on forums and news comment fields anyway even though it doezn't anymore and I know it" :p

I'm not sure if that's true. there's no doubt some hate comes from people that can't afford something. but it also comes from people that have a phone they're content with and have no intention whatsoever of buying it. then there are people that just like to complain.

a lot of people are simply trigger shy too. they wait for the perfect phone, which is never gonna come, and instead if looking at what it has, they nitpick and find reasons not to part with their money. the 810 is a perfect example. it could be another 6 months before we see the 820, and by then they'll find something else not to like.

I think most people that use the 810 as a reason not to get the 6p had no intention of buying it in the first place for whatever reason. people can do what they want, nothing wrong with passing up a phone for any reason, but we all knew this phone was gonna be using the 810 for 5 months. I also question people that say they're not getting it cause of the wireless charging. I'm sure there are a few people where that's the case, but that seems like a silly reason to pass up what is otherwise an amazing device. surely if you're a Nexus fan, and planned all along to get one, that wouldn't be the only reason stopping you.

that said, I can see people that buy a new phone every 6 months to a year passing it up. if the 6p was replacing my Nexus 6, maybe the 810 and no wireless charging would prevent me from doing so. but for people coming from an S4, Nexus 4 or something even older, no way wireless charging is the deal breaker. they would fall into your category of people that don't have the cash or credit to get one.

So getbretweir are you buying the new Nexus 6P?

yeah, I ordered the 64GB graphite to replace my S4 (work phone) ... last month I grabbed the Nexus 6, which I had no intention on doing until I saw it on Amazon for $350, which replaced my Nexus 4 (personal).

Cool, I'm still on the fence but more than likely I'll buy the 128GB one, I shouldn't need more than 64GB but you never know.
