SD card Movies appear in Gallery

Hi all, fairly new to Android and loving it, wish I'd ditched Apple much sooner.

Small issue (annoyance) I have a fair commute to work therefore add quite a lot of movies to my 128GB SD card. However each time I add something it appears in the Gallery.

Is this standard practice or is there an option I can choose to stop this? Its a fairly minor issue but would prefer the Gallery only to show pics and videos taking from the camera etc.

What you can do is create blank text file and name it .nomedia. Put that file in any folder(s) of your choice. Anything in a folder that has the file .nomedia in it will not show up in your gallery.

After you create the .nomedia file you won't see the file itself, it will be hidden, but it is there and you won't see it unless you have show hidden files checked.
