SD card not recognized after update

I'm using a Kingston micro SD card, and for the second time, after an update, I'm getting a message that the card is not recognized as needs to be formatted. Since I'm storing photos on it, I really don't want to reformat.. any suggestions as to reason or a fix for it?

Dismount the sd card (or turn off the tablet) and remove the sd card. Put it in a card reader on your computer and recover all the lost files.
