Hi guys,
Brand new Incredible owner, switched from Blackberry and not looking back. I have 2 Storms sitting around now, one is a backup, the other one is totally bricked/dead. So, I have an 8GB MicroSD card that I pulled out of the bricked Storm, can I put that in my Incredible? I understand I'd have to format it, have seen the format option in settings somewhere, but should I format it on the computer first (to fat32 or something. Running linux on desktop pc, so I can do ext2 or something else too,) before I put it in the phone? Will it even work?

I'm only suggesting this because it seems like the phone only has 2GB SD card from the store, am I understanding things wrong?

Many thanks!

Welcome to Android Central :-)

I would format the card using your computer and you shouldn't have any problems using it with you new Dinc.

For what it's worth, I used my 8GB card from my storm too, never formatted it, and still have access to all the media files that I had loaded to it for the storm. Music, documents, photos, and the like. Just an FYI. If you've got all the stuff like that backed up somewhere else, then the format is the way to go.

Awesome, thanks guys. I did already get the pics/music off of the SD card when it went bad, so I think format is the way to go, but I'll sure remember that if someone else asks.

I'm also using a 8 gb sd card from my BB S2. Works fine but the Inc wouldn't read anything from the BB folder. Moved the contents into a similar droid folder, no issues.

For a quick followup. I ended up connecting the 8GB SD card (from my Storm 1) to the computer, removed the whole partition table with Ubuntu's Disk Utility. Put that in my phone, booted up fine, formatted the drive using the the SD Card Format Utility thing (under Settings). Connected the old 2GB card from my Incredible to the computer, then mounted the phone as a drive as well, copied all the stuff over. Don't know if that last bit was important but figured it wouldn't hurt too much.

Disconnected everything and it seems good to go! The trickiest part was figuring out how to pull the back off the phone. For the record looks like it formats the SD card as fat32, 'tho I didn't need to do a full format, just blow away the old partition table.

Same as others have mentioned. When I upgraded from a BB Storm to a DINC, I just took the card from my Storm and popped it into my DINC. This gives me access to all the files I had with my storm ...but ...there is some stuff on there that is BB specific that, never interferes, but bugs me that it's there taking up space

I've actually ran into problems with this. Every few weeks I get a "unexpected error" it dismount itself I'm getting really annoyed yes I've formatted it before I swapped but jot on the computer. Any suggestions?
