So my SD card randomly corrupted. I was able to get my pics and videos off thankfully. But j tried to format it to fix it but I get this error tried plugging it into a computer read only error
Any one know what to do? Or cut my losses and get a new one?

(Did try command prompting to remove the read only only it doesn't work.

I have found that removing an SD Card - ever - without unmounting it first - will corrupt it. And reformatting will not rectify the issue. Just replace the card. The only exception is if it is mounted as OTG plugged into your note 8. Only take it out of the Note when the phone is turned off. When you have the card in a PC, go to file explorer and right-click on the drive representing the card and select "unmount". Only when unmounted can you then safely remove it. You don't need to take your card out of the phone to copy anything from it. Use Sidesync, or if you just plug the phone into the pc with a usb cable, open the file explorer and the phone's internal memory as well as the card will be shown. Hope that helps...

thing was I never remove that slot it just randomly happened which was super weird oh well got 3 years out of it . I'm just glad I got all the photos

Only SD Card I've had issues with was in a phone I threw at a concrete wall and broke.

Failure rates are low, but it does happen. Depending it's age you may have a warranty on it.

same just happened to me. Thankfully he have google photos which backs up everything! I am replacing the card.

I had the Samsung 32gb XC . great card like I said had it for 3 ywars. there's apperenly a 5 year on it. maybe see if a contact from work knows a guy who can streamline my process for warranty

Mine was a SanDisk

I remember back in my note 3 or maybe it was early note 4 days that lots of people on the xda forums were reporting SanDisk cards getting corrupted, whether it was the cards sold back then or Samsung phone not liking them I don't know but it was the reason I bought Samsung memory cards for my two note 8 this time (also got lucky on price)
