Can I wipe my card and still be able to use it? I know I have stuff on there like backups but I want to totally erase everything on there and start fresh just as if I were using a new card, is that possible or will the phone be bricked?

The SD card is only for storage, you can do whatever you want to it without hurting the phone. It doesn't NEED it, like I said, its just 32GB of extra storage space.
