SD Storage Showing Up in Internal Storage?

I have an SD Card in my new EVO. I've downloaded a few movies to it, ~ 2GB worth so far. When I look at my phones internal storage, it's showing that I've used up over 3GB. There should only be ~ 1GB of space consumed on the internal storage between GTA3 that I've moved there and miscellaneous pictures I've taken and music from Google Play that I've pinned to the phone's storage. Is the internal storage capacity actually taking the SD Card into account because the SD card is showing up as a folder within the phone's internal storage? eg, /sdcard/ext_sd. If so, is there a way to change that without rooting?

Not yet.
What previously was sdcard, is not the phones internal storage.
the actual sd card, as you have noticed is not ext_sd.
Unfortunaltey this came from phones having only 2 options. internal or external storge.
now devices have internal, external, and memory card. Pretty much adding a new level of storage and the devices have not been updated.
In the future i hope to see this fixed.
