Question searching for ways to do long distance call inexpensive

Hi im in canada and rarely have to do long distance call.
I have samsung edge7 with koodo and it is 1.80 dol perminute to call in france!!

I would go with prepaid longdistance call found in grocery store if only there was one that has no expiration date or monthly fee. is there such a card.?

are there other options that you dont loose your money if you dont use the credit for long periods?

I have a Google voice account but I'm not sure it's supported from Canada, I know in the US side it low per min rates

Yeah, I was thinking Voice also since you can use it only when you need to, it offers long distance, you can add funds if you want that doesn't expire or charge regular fees. It kind of checks most or all of the boxes.

Depending your carrier, I know this is true for me with Verizon, I have a plan option that I can invoke that gives me international calling on a flat pay by the day rate ($10~$12), which uses my plan's minutes and data rates, or I can enroll in an international plan, which is a one time purchase with a bundle of minutes, texts and data, that is good for 30 days. Either sounds like they could work for you if your carrier offered similar products but which one is right for you would depend on your usage. If you use a lot of minutes $10, even in CAD, might be less than your target of $1.80, CAD I assume.
