Searching in Contacts - Old Palm Treo works better!

So I get rid of my old Treo only to find out that old technology works better in some ways than the hottest Andriod SW. I must be doing something wrong and hopefully will get some help in this forum.

History:
1. I used a program to transfer my Palm OS contact data into Outlook format (.pst). That xfer seemed to work fine.
2. Using Outlook, I exported that .pst data using CSV (windows) with Default Maps creating a .csv file.
3. On Google web site, I imported this .csv file.
4. Using the new Incredible, I Sync to the Google site.

OK, so all transfered OK. BUT, when I do a search in "People" or when wanting to phone a business partner, my only option is to search by the main contact name. I have many business contacts so with Palm, I would type in the business name (which by the way IS on the imported contact list) and it would appear. In many cases I have the Buyer's name as the main name, the company name, then in the notes section of the file is a host of other names that work at the same company. With Palm I was even able to search for those names in the notes section and it would still find the file.

Is there any way (or 3rd party app) that would allow me to do a FULL in depth search within the contact info?

Thanks for reading....

as a 10yr Palm guy, there STILL things Palm did better like searching contacts. Also miss typing in an appt in my calendar and getting a quick link in options to that person's contact info. Was BB storm for 18mos and I miss swiping the keyboard down off the screen when Im done typing, and having a send button showing above the keyboard so I can send instantly. Miss press and hold for caps.

Bottom line no phone is perfect for every person.

You got that right!

If someone came out with an app that gave full search capabilities of any group of words within one's Contacts and instantly brought the data up on the screen to view, to call, etc., it would sell very well. I would be the 1st to buy it.

I feel your pain. I miss this also. Only way I have found so far is to go to gmail and search my contacts by keywords there. It amazes me this feature got left off of palm webos and can't be done on android.

Search on Droid

Go to settings on the droid and look for the Search tab.
Tap Searchable items.
There are a list of items to choose.

There is no search choice for calendar. In the market, the Power Search app states it will do that.

The Search function still does not look for key words or names within a Contact. By the way, INC does have Calendar option in selection list.

Search on Droid update

Oops. Saw the link to the thread on the google browser so sent the previous reply. Just checked the forum links at the top of the page and see this is a Droid Incredible forum. I have the Moto Droid. Don't know why the search function or market would be different though.

i am with you guys 100%. i was at work today and could not remember somebody's name for the life of me but i knew his business name. i tried for ten minutes but it will not search anything but the contact name. lets figure this out there has to be a work around.

5 year bb user so you feel my pain. other than this issue and a few others i am pretty impressed. i can't see me going back unless bb builds some new software and gets the wow factor going.

I just migrated from a Palm Treo 700p. It's sad that we can't replicate 10 year old technology.

My old Palm used to be able to completely hide secured notes. I can't find a note app that does the same. Sure, you can password protect a note, but it won't hide it. Now it's pretty obvious which notes are the ones a thief should break into because they're marked as locked.

When I hit the search button and start typing a business name that I have listed in my contacts it will show that contact.

Finally found the answer. The app is called "power search" .
Its in the market and works great to search contracts, and most everything else for data on your android
