This is the next chapter of my story, which started here:

Boot loop problem and my factory repair story - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

When that happened, I went to Swappa and bought a used V10 and started using that. That was mid-December.

LG sent my first unit back to me; I set it up, but I left it sitting on the counter turned on, never really using it. I didn't put my SIM card in it, I didn't take it out of the house. But hey, it was ready for me to use...

I kept using the replacement V10 until a few weeks ago, when it bootlooped. Ah, well, whaddya know. I went back to my first, factory repaired unit and have been using it since. In the meantime, unit #2--now broken--just sat there. Its sticker showed a manufacture date of October 2015, so I figured it had to be WELL out of warranty by now.

Again, I was just going to smash it and move on. But I didn't.

Eventually I read enough stories about how this appeared to be a flat rate $72 repair by LG, so the other day I sent it in to see what they'd say. Worst case they'd quote me some large repair number, and I'd decline and just be out postage. But hey, I figure it's worth the $72.

Overnight they emailed me a status update to tell me they received it and the repair is under warranty.

Now, last time they turned it around in one day and shipped it back out. I'm curious to see if they repair it Monday and ship it out on Monday evening. Their status update did say to expect it in 6 business days, so maybe so.

Every single person that I know that has a V10 is on a replacement unit. That's why as soon as the V20 came out I sold my own warranty replacement V10 at a loss and paid the difference to AT&T to get it.

All I did was fill out the form online; when I described the problem, I again used the words boot loop.

The only difference here is, this time LG did not pay for shipping to their facility. I did. Seven bucks. So they knew from the IMEI number that this wasn't under their normal warranty. But from the behavior they observed at their repair facility, they must have seen something that they're just taking care of on a goodwill basis.

So I don't understand why others aren't getting this same service.

I'm waiting for the V30 myself.

I am probably also going to get a Blackberry KEYone next month, because I never got over having a physical keyboard.

Man this problem is crazy. I have both V20 and V10. V10 I'm currently just using for audio player only and camera every now and then. I actually wish it would boot loop just so I could ship it to LG. Feel like it's a time bomb waiting to happen. I only bought the V20 during TMobile's $360 deal plus free LG mini beam projector that I will sell to recoup the cost.
They are nice phones when they work!

So far so good no boot loop on mine since December 2015. It is insured under Verizon, but its nice to know I can get it repaired for $72 if I chose to.

Read my post more carefully. They're covering it under warranty.

I was prepared to spend $72, but their email indicated covered under warranty.

FREE repair.

And the only out of pocket I had was the seven bucks of postage to send it in. (When it's under their standard warranty, they pay that shipping cost.)

That's TWO V10 units, both repaired FOR FREE by LG.

I'm still confused as to why others had radically different experiences.

Holy crap, not only did they receive it yesterday, they shipped it out this morning. Or at least put it in a box and made a FedEx label.

And they've never asked me for a dime.

Hi, I'm Tardus. My V10 has not bootlooped and it is working great! The DAC is pretty incredible when paired with high quality earphones. So now you know someone that has a V10 that hasn't bootlooped. If it does bootloop, I'll get it fixed or have get a new phone. No reason for me to consider getting rid of it now for what might happen in the future.

I'm talking about people I know personally. And that includes my brother (the reason I went from Galaxy Note Edge to V10) and four friends. The V10 is based on the G4 and the hotter the phone runs, the higher the likelihood of bootloop. If the V10 did not have this hardware problem I would have gladly waited to upgrade to the V30 as I prefer to upgrade every two generations. Good luck with yours I'd hope none other did fail, but I wasn't about to be stuck with a ticking time bomb.

Just make sure you keep your stuff on your SD card and backed up on the cloud. Cause when it does happen, you won't see it coming.

That's nothing V10-specific; that's just plain good advice for anyone. All music and photos and videos and whatever downloads are on SD card, and I can switch phones at a moment's notice.

I'm currently on my third V10. First I replaced under warranty for overheating, second I replaced under warranty for a sticking power button. So far no bootloop but I do notice it does run hot when running some apps. Mainly memory intensive games like Pokemon Go and Star Wars: Force Collection. It also runs warm when updating apps through the play store. Hopefully it will last until my next upgrade this fall. If not, I'll try the repair solution above and worst case pay the $72, best case just pay the shipping like Adam Frix did.

If you want to know what is going on install an app like "Os Monitor" from the play store. It sounds like your third phone may also be a lemon. But would be good to know the temps of battery when the phone isn't doing anything. The V10 is no longer a state of the art flagship phone. It is getting pretty old, two three models newer available from LG. It might be time to get something more up to date if you can.

Right now where I am it is HOT - ambient room temp - 79 degrees, according to OS Monitor battery temp is 87 degrees. Under the process tab not much going on. OS monitor and System are battling for the most CPU intensive app - at 2.5% of CPU total. Under the connection tab no rogue apps going crazy sending data back to home. So overall my V10 is pretty healthy.

I know all about the G4. I handed mine to a family member when I got the V10. The G4 is still not bootlooping. My V10 hasn't yet. I know 3 people that have V10's and thay have not bootlooped. But this is statistically insignificant. Both my experience and yours.

I can see how your experiences have led you to feel confident in those two phones. And you can see how my experiences lead me to not trust the V10 at all.

I'm kind of stuck with my 3rd one for now. It's out of warranty and my next upgrade isn't until this fall. I currently run Gsam Battery Monitor. Sitting on my desk with both wifi and data off due to lack of signal, my battery temp shows 95 degrees. Low to mid 90s been the norm on 2 of the V10s I've used. My first one was always running over 100 degrees if I did anything at all with it. That is also with a case surrounding it at all times which I'm sure helps hold the heat in somewhat. If I run Pokemon Go for too long the screen will get so hot I can barely touch it. I actually have to stop and hold the phone in front of the AC for a bit to cool it down. Seriously thinking about the Note 8 when it comes out as much as I don't care for Samsung. Just hope this phone will last that long.

Actually after letting it sit for a few minutes after rebooting it's sitting at 80 degrees right now. This is with data and wifi off though. If I turn on data it will immediately start heating up as it tries to find service. I work at the fringe of service so my phone just keeps searching until it kills the battery.

Got it back today, setting it up now. "Replaced board" is all the paperwork says. But, no cost.
