Security Updates for Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T580 (2016)

An elderly neighbour has asked me for some help and I noticed that his Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T580 (2016) is still on Android 8.1.0

I tried to find out via web searches and also at Samsung's website whether this device should be still getting security updates to the kernel. Also what is the latest Android version this can run / be offered.

He uses it for email, playing card games, internet banking app and a bit of web browsing. So whilst he doesn't need all the bells and whistles in the latest Android, it's important that it is secure.

I hope some knowledgable person can assist or point me to a source. Thank you. Alan

PS. I ran a virus scan and that was clear (I've forgotten what scanner was installed)

Galaxy A tablets usually only got 2 years of security updates and one Android version update.

Welcome to Android Central! I agree with above, it stopped getting updates a while ago. For basic use, it's ok, but if security is important, then it's time to upgrade to a more current tablet. The Tab A7 lite or A8 lite is more or less the same level of device, but it's going to be much better than the 2016 device.
