See the watchface

I would like to be able to see my watchface so that I can do the most basic thing, read the time. The only way I am able to do this is with the 360 set to mute so that my notifications are gone. But this removes the "smart" function of the watch. Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to swipe away a notification and not have it replaced with an endless stream of Google Now cards?
