Seeing double: texts are showing twice

I have recently backed up all my SMS messages to the SD card on my SIII mini but now the messages are shown twice. Is there any way I can continue to store backups on the memory card without them displaying in my text app, as I backed them up so that I could make space on my phone memory and to reduce the number of texts I have 'live'?

What are you using to back them up? It seems like the SMS app would recognize the messages that were backed up and not show them again and again. Of course a separate backup may not be as good at that. There are several backups at the Play store one of them should be able to give you what you want.

Hm. Normally, to prevent media files from showing up in galleries, you'd add a ".noMedia"- file to the folder. But that probably won't work here. The only other solution I can come up with is hiding the backup folder on SD (rename backup folder "Folder" to ".Folder"). That might work. But you can't see the folder either, unless you change that in your configuration
