seeking ROM recommendations

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm hoping to have the time to root tomorrow. Client gave me a ton of additions / edits to work through this weekend. (ZzZZZzzZzzzz)

I'm prepping here. Gonna start out with Nils' Sense 4 ROM. Any recommendations on whether to go with S-ON or S-OFF?

Thanks, guys!

Depends on what you did when you rooted everything. Do you know if your s-on or off? If you never had to jump a wire between two holes in the back of your phone, your still s-on. If I remember, Nils does an installer, that asks you questions about what you want to do, and if your s-on or s-off, and that makes it super easy. If your not sure, power down your phone and boot into the bootloader, at the top it will say. It's not the end of the world if you guess wrong, just if your s-on and flash the s-off version, you won't get the kernel, and therefore won't boot, but you still can get back to recovery and flash again.... hope that makes sense.

Thanks, two! Long story short, I flashed Nils' with the S-OFF option first, and it did not boot. I then flashed with the S-ON option, and it booted after I ran the kernel update. I then re-flashed the S-OFF option, but - just as you said - I am still S-ON ... verified it at HBOOT.

This works for me.

I'm still trying to figure out this part of the instructions, though:
Superuser
Settings: Before using any root apps like WiFi tether open Superuser and accept binary

I opened SuperSU. SuperSU told me I need to update binaries. SuperSU tried to reboot into recovery, but failed. So, I booted into recovery per SuperSU's instructions. Any idea how I can go about updating the binaries? I'm clueless. I downloaded this binary update file but have no idea how to flash it, if that's even possible.

I understand this is necessary to get the Wifi Tethering to work properly.

Thank you!

You might just see if tethering just works. For some reason, I don't remember ever having to actually do that... but I don't tether all that much. If it really needed to flash something, you should have a folder on your sd card for the SU app, I tried looking, but I've not had to update the binaries (on EclipticREZ now), so no folder for me. Take a look with a file explorer. If you see one, just boot into recovery and flash it manually, if you need to do anything at all.

Make sure it's SuperSU. There's a difference between that and superuser.

Yep, it's SuperSU, & my tablet connects to the wifi tether but can't surf the net. I'll work on it ... my copy of SuperSU failed to 'update the binaries' so I'm either going to get that update or re-flash again to force another update attempt.

I tried ViperRez briefly -- it's probably stable as heck, but it seems like Business ICS without a lot of the features that comes in Business ICS. I can see that ViperRez would be great for those who like to customize, though.

I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the recommended ROMs in this thread, as well. :D
