First: I tried searching all relevant forums before posting this.

I have a Droid X of course. I know Otterbox just came out with their 3 levels of cases for the Droid X and are similar to Seidio's versions.

I am trying to decide between the middle of the lione cases from either company. However, I want to by Motorola's 1900mAh Extended battery and no one has been able to tell me if any of the cases will fit over it. I have been told the Defender Series Otterbox will definitely not fit due the hard case.

Thank you for your knowledge and opinions.

I can tell you from first hand experience the seidio surface and rugged fit perfectly over the extended battery. i just got an otterbox defender and it seems to fit just fine over the extended battery as well. The defender is a much better case, it's not even close.

The extended battery will fit with both the Otterbox and Seidio. I also have first hand experience. I believe it actually fits better with the otterbox, but the most important thing I noticed between the two is that the otterbox makes it much easier to slide down the notification bar. The Seidio is a little fatter so it is more difficult to type on as well. However, the Seidio provides SLIGHTLY more protection, as well as a more meaty holster that also locks. The otterbox covers the buttons as well which I really wanted personally.

Otterbox > Seidio

I have Innocase, Innocase Active, Innocase Rugged and now Otterbox Defender. I'll take the Defender without a second thought.

:: sigh :: Well, I have a Seidio Surface case which I use day to day, and got the rugged add on kit for when I am on duty (police officer). I had an otterbox defender for my BB and really loved it. This post makes me want to ditch the rugged add on and just get the defender series though...I still have yet to see any pictures of the defender on someones X though! Lets see some Droid porn!

Check the other thread on the defender. I put up some pics
How do you like the orientation of the holster? I would be using this on a duty belt so I would need it to sit in the holster vertically. Hard to get out of the holster when it's sitting that way? What are your thoughts on that?

I'm curious on that horizontal orientation of the holster, I'll be putting the phone on my best next to my walkie for events I run, I'd rather have it sit vertically just like UtahConcealer.

Thank you all for your opinions. I am keeping my newly purchased Otterbox Defender. I purchased the 1900mAh extended batter and Otterbox "Rugged" (Defender) from Verizon Wireless Store. If you have an account with VZW you may have special discounnts on accessories. I get 17% off so I purchased both there cheaper than doing it anywhere online and had it in hand same time. Obvioulsy, I tried and teh 1mm back door fit fine in the Defender. I also confirmed with @otterbox the Defender is called Rugged in a VZW box.

The holster is landscape so multiple belt items will get in the way.

CONS:
1. added weight BUT expected some since Defender must be a little bulky
2. The rubber corners keep pulling off the cover so I have to continually re set the rubber case every time it is in and out of the holster. I will be speaking with @otterbox to find a plausible solution.

The Otterbox case wins in my opinion, but Seidio has a much better holster. My X is really happy traveling around in my Otterbox Def. Case & Seidio Rugged holster ;)

Otterbox is american made.

No, Otterbox is not American made. Otterbox is just like most American owned companies these days, they have their products made in China.

Otterbox’s site lists the Commuter and the Impact as being able to accept the extended battery, but the Defender can’t. I owned (for a very short time) the Commuter, but I hated it. The flaps that cover the ports are a good idea, but the design was poorly executed. However it did take the extended battery very well

As for Seidio cases, I owned the “Active X” not the “Active”. The Active X is sold only on Amazon from all that I can tell. It is a Seidio product, but the package listed it as a limited edition. The Active X looks like the Surface Rugged but with out the flap for the camera. The Active X is only a single case though, but it is a two piece that goes together like the Rugged add on kit for the Surface. The Active X does accommodate the extended battery very well.

Seidio’s site does not denote what cases will work with the extended battery.

Seidio’s site:
seidioonline.com

Otterbox’s site:
DROID X by Motorola Cases // OtterBox.Com

Amazon’s page for the “Active X”:
Amazon.com: Seidio Innocase Active X Case for Motorola Droid X (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

With all that being said; I would think that any case that is flexible soft silicone for an inner shelf will be able to take the extended battery. The extended battery from Motorola only adds 1 mm of thickness.

I hope I was some help.

Seidio was founded in Houston Texas so their product is also made in america right?

I know for a fact that the batteries are made in China (printed right on the sticker for the battery) even though the cells are made in Japan (or so they say).

But I can't find any info on whether or not the cases are made in China. I threw away the box my Active X came in and the case itself does not have any stamping on it denoting where it was made.

I'd bet that they are made in China.

Plus, I hope you were joking with the - if its American company then its made in America, thing...

with the defender does the phone only fit in the holster screen out? I don't want the world seeing what is on the screen plus I don't want to worry about hitting something on the screen.
