Send/Receive text does not work

I have a Sony Xperia 3123. Have had problems texting send/receive. Do you have to use area code for texting ? Using Nougat and Tracfone sim

Welcome to Android Central! Yes, you always need to use an area code whenever calling or texting. Does it work if you use the area code?
