Sending duplicate texts

I have a galaxy s5 on Verizon and recently it has randomly started sending multiple texts. This doesn't happen to everyone and it might send the same text 10 times. How do I stop this?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you only using the stock Messaging app? Have you asked your carrier about this?

I am using the stock app, and no I haven't contacted Verizon. I'll try that today

I've seen this kind of issue raised every so often, but have not encountered a definitive fix. I wonder if it's worth playing around with settings for Advanced Calling or Wi-fi Calling.
