So, maybe this is just me but sometimes when I am having a conversation with someone over text my messages will go over 160 characters and it gets split into two texts (I use Handscent). But whenever I hit that 160 threshold suddenly my keyboard starts to lag, and gets worse the more I type onto the second text. I have tried typing slower, but it still lags a decent amount. Has anyone else had this issue??

I don't use that app, and I haven't tried it on three galaxy yet but when I text that long I'll then an mms without a picture. That way you can text up to a thousand characters with one text. Did this since the flip phone days

Tried a bunch or things to force an mms on the native texting program, select the 3 dots and choose add subject.
This forces the mms (shows it in gray letters next to the send arrow). Then text as long as you need.

Not your original question though sorry.

I go over 160 characters all the time when texting and when my messages are split into separate texts I don't experience any lag when typing. I've used Chomp SMS and Go SMS Pro, but never use Handcent. Btw I'm using the stock keyboard, maybe it's the keyboard you're using?

I am using the stock keyboard, so it shouldn't be that, maybe I will download go sms pro and see if I experience the same lag as with handscent.

I have the same problem using the stock SMS app and Gmail as well. Extremely annoying as I type pretty fast and often find myself several words ahead and have to slow down. People have commented on this in the past and I believe I remember seeing a rumor that 4.03 fixes this bug. I'm not holding my breath.

Update. I am going to quote Poseign from another thread:

"the problem is with autocorrect. For whatever reason, autocorrect slows the landscape keyboard down but not the protrait mode one. If you cant deal with the slowdown, go to settings, > language and input and disable spelling corrections. Lag free typing ahoy!

But you have to correct your own mistakes, so you decide whats more important.

EDIT: Yes, there is a fix for this in the works AFAIK. "

I tested this myself and it indeed solved the problem 100%. No lag. . It's possible choosing another keyboard may solve your problem as well. So you get to choose. Disable/different keyboard/or wait for fix.. Good luck!

I was just about to say something about it only lagging while in landscape, but I turned off spell corrections and it works fine now!! Thanks for that find!
