I need to cash in on my insurance plan bc of a shattered screen. Do I need to send in the memory card as well? Will the new "certified" phone come with a card? Thanks

Going based off of my experience with warranties just send in the phone only. Keep your sim card, sd card battery and back of the case.

I'm pretty sure you get to keep you card. I always have kept mine. I would call whoever handles the claims (customer service?) and make sure what you need to return so you don't get any unexpected charges. :D

I have plenty of experience with Asurion. All I have ever sent back was the phone itself and the battery door. I was told to keep everything else. For me, they sent a new sim card (I never used it), battery, and charger. Yes, it was a "like new" phone but I had to make use of the warranty on it since it crapped out after a week. Then they sent a brand new one.

Why the back of the case? Why would I keep that to begin with?

I asked when they approved my replacement - keep it.

make sure you keep your copy of the tracking number for the broken phone. I had a two month issue with verizon for the same issue. I got the replacement phone back and they couldnt find it. Then one day i go see my bill and it says its is over 700 dollars. My bill is always 75.41 a month. I called verizon cursing and guess what they found the phone a few days ago but my bill was never adjusted. I dont know why I had to all to solve an issue that they caused. They have since credited the phone and the fees and taxes.

Oh don't worry, they do this often. If you don't catch their "error", they have no problem cashing in on it. Years ago during one of their buy 1 get 1 free promotions, they charged me for the same phone twice. Naturally I called, and they said it was a "processing error."

They sent me a text when they received my replacement, I forwarded that off to my email addy just in case as well....

My Rez kicked the bucket over the Memorial Day weekend. Powered it off Sun. afternoon to get a full charge. Powered it on, hooked up my MHL, qeued up a flick to watch. It was a total wave of the white flag move, to appease the bosoms seated beside me. Some awful romantic comedy film that requires estrogen to enjoy. (Maybe it killed itself out of sheer boredom before I did.LOL). Anyhow, about 15-20 mins. later, outta the blue, phone goes to a blank white screen & freezes, unresponsive to power button off. Tried everything to get it to boot normally, to no avail. Wouldn't even allow me to power into hboot. All it did was go to a white screen. After a few attempts, white screen became a frozen, backlit black screen. I then noticed, hooked up on the charger, the indication light would pop on for about 30 secs then just turn off. So it couldn't even take charge anymore. About a 1/2 hour later, it died. I'm not sure if it was physical, hardware related or maybe a corrupt ruu or kernel. MD5 sums matched so I don't think it was due to that. Apart from being a work in progress, it was very solid with heavy usage all week. Usual refurb process, rep told me to keep my sim, door and battery. They sent me a mint condition refurb yesterday w/ a door, usb charger(oddly it was cord only) and a standard battery for whatever reason. They usually just toss a device in the box. That was kinda cool b/c I sure wasn't thrilled about getting a refurb from the folks @ vzw.

sorry for your troubles. Glad to hear that they gave you the battery and charger cable. I never got so lucky before with clnr. Did you get an extmicro usb or just regular micro USB?

Btw, maybe it got jealous that you where watching Gnomeo and Juliet . ;)

Wow, sorry to hear. I'm very curious as to why it failed, and also very paranoid about tinkering with my phone. Remind me to avoid every ROM and RUU you've ever used. Did you go through Asurion or the warranty route?

I was pleasantly surprised b/c all refurbs I got on past devices were never in pristine condition or came w/ extras. They sent the micro w/ a standard USB end that shipped in the original packaging. They didn't include the plug in component, though. They basically sent me 1/2 a charger. If I didn't have the original one, the thing would be pretty much useless to me w/ out it. I figure it may come in handy if the micro end on my orig. ever gets a lil worn down from all the charging, eventually.

I'm curious as to what went wrong myself. I went thru Verizon, not worried about warranty fallout since it's dead as a doornail. I thought it may have been a bad ruu, corrupt download or kernel related for a few hours but I don't think that was what went south on me since no one else had reported a similar issue. I dropped Venasaur 3.2.0. in a week prior and it was solid as all get out. I didn't even get a chance to tinker with anything. Heck, I didn't even get everything set up and dialed in, yet. I've never had prolems on any BAMF rom so I don't think the rom did it. I'll drop it on here again in the near future. Til then I'm stock on the refurb. Gonna reaccquaint w/ GB and bloat for a few days, to see what I've been missing. GB/3.5 is actually much better than I remember it being.

I'm still running GB, although not exactly stock. It works pretty damn well, so I saw no need to jump on the ICS ROMs until they got a little more polished/official looking.
With that experience you went through, I wouldn't even ROM it. I'd wait for official ICS before the tinkering starts again.

I lost mine on memorial day weekend and went through tep. They sent me a brand spanking new one. Retail box, beats headphones the whole shebang.

Actually, I was pondering on that, even brought it up in a previous thread, just prior to reading this one. I may wait to see the ota, if a solid rumor pops up in the next week or two. 100% stability was never promised doing this stuff. I'd stay away from it for good if I got an inkling on a brick risk. I'm sure it wasn't the ruu itself. A bad kernel has potential to make it run like crap or not run at all. But to take an abrupt nosedive like that after working beautifully seems very odd behavior out of a kernel, especially, if no one else has experienced this.

Why you [censored]. You had to take a huge dump on my parade, didn't cha. Thought I got lucky with my swap out, You called bingo for the jackpot, lucky duck. That was from corporate?

They want to have the original back door because if you have an extended battery, chances are you have a backdoor that fits the oversized battery. They will have to source a regular sized door once they fix your phone and send it to somebody else as "certified".

Rather than poll every customer with "do you have different-than-stock-back-cover?" they have just adopted the policy of flat-out making sure you send the original back cover with your phone.

Gotta love those "1/2 a chargers" -- leave one permanently attached to my pc so I don't have to hunt down charge/data transfer cord, have another one perma-stationed on my pc at work, etc.
