Sending & receiving txt messages

Hi guys
Can anyone shed some light on why my Samsung galaxy watch ultra 7 lte can't send or receive messages when not with my phone ,can get & make calls but no txt , I'm in Australia with Telstra have the one number for the watch

My watch isn't lte, but I did find this suggestion on Reddit. It makes sense to me. Hopefully, this will work on the Watch 7.

You're phone also has to be on to send and receive text messages. The carrier forwards your calls but they can't forward text messages, that goes thru data to your phone and then the phone sends the text.

The apple watch works the same way, but if the text is between 2 iPhone users the messages will go thru since those are sent via data. Google is working on making RCS work the same way between RCS and RCS, but as of now you can't do it from the watch alone.

I had galaxy watch 3 lte years ago & it worked fine , surely they haven't gone backwards

I can understand your frustration. It's a key feature in the lte model. We're getting a new OS update very soon. Maybe that will help. I'll keep searching.
