I have read and gone through http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sense-4-complete-walkthrough and also read some other threads about Sense 4.0 and ICS. Dont get me wrong, I was an original EVO 4G owner pre-ordered the first day and took launch day off to get my phone. Then I went to the NS4G and loved pure google experience. I was stoked when ICS came out because one of Googles thing was OEM not really using heavy UI over theres.

The hardware on the new EVO 4G LTE is amazing! All the hands on I have read have been great. I was going to to go with a GNex but i keep going back and forth. The one thing that turns me off is those dated icons in sense . I use GWallet and most Google services and dont want to load custom ROMS. Hopefully someone can tell me that I can turn off Sense 4.0 and not use those icons. Another example is the Google voice search transparent bar which is on every screen...why is it a widget in Sense 4.0 when it was a bullet point with ICS and Google? Before you guys go off saying "Why are you so stuck on the icons?" It is because I feel that they should of updated them to fit the ICS experience. Its like MS keeping the same icons from XP in Windows 7. New OS means new icons! That is one of the excitements of getting a new OS. The internals are AMAZING....the new design is pretty good...but Sense 4.0 light makes it look like my OG EVO 4G.

Let me know what you guys think..maybe im just crazy or something.

Updating the Sense icons for the stock ICS experience doesn't make any sense (no pun intended), because you're not getting the stock ICS experience on Sense 4.0; you're getting the Sense experience. Personally, I'm very happy about that: I think the ICS icons look terrible and are easily my biggest complaint about the ICS UI. The less I have to look at the black and blue ICS UI with fisher-price icons, the happier I am.

I hear you on the search bar, though. Not that I like the persistent search bar of ICS, but it's better than just a widget. I'd have rather seen Google leave the search button alone because it was incredibly useful the way it was. One button for easy access to voice actions, searching for anything on the phone or on the internet, and even typing URLs. I never bother to open the browser, I just press search and type in my destination.

I see what you are saying still an update or face lift would be nice to the icons. Hopefully there's an update in the near future.

Like it or not, Android is full of choices - choose the set of features on the phone, choose the UI skin, choose your launcher, choose your keyboard etc etc, it goes on and on.

With each choice also comes compromise. On top of it you have fragmentation in Android itself, custom rom's etc. This is why we love Android and learn to make our choices.

I ran stock on my Evo 4G for 6 months and looking back i didn't have the best battery life but I also didn't have to think about the latest rom on xda, bootloops, recoveries and all that. I expect Sense 4.0 will be quite usable for most people, and we will get root soon. Just be aware stock ICS will have all the features Sense has.
