I am not sure if anyone else has run into this yet. But I didn't really notice it until yesterday. The clock/weather widget, the city listed which should be based on your physical location (GPS) and I do have all of the location services checked is way, way wrong.

Case in point, I noticed it was showing the weather in St. Johnsville, NY which happened to be about 350 miles from where I was standing at the time. I refreshed the weather about 10 times, indoors and outdoors and no change. It won't find the area I live in despite the fact that my prior Android phones could (heck my iPhone could).

Now when I am at home its still off the mark, but this time by about 20 miles. I did pull the batter and the 4G SIM card (4G LTE come later this year as confirmed in this weeks announcement).

In fact on day 1 of getting the phone it listed two cities NYC and St. Johnsville, and it wouldn't let me delete both. So I think something is off in the GPS on this device or is it me?

One more point, I did a wipe and started over, still the same.

It seems to happen randomly to people, has happened to me two or three times now keeps saying Chicago for some reason ... yea Im kinda in Baltimore

2 ways I've fixed it

1. reboot the phone - always seems to work
2. switch from 3/4G to wifi and then update that usually works for me now as well, and the switch back to 3/4G and it should work properly again

I'm in downtown San Francisco and my sense widget has both the time and weather for Luanda in West Africa. It would never change so I just got rid of the weather/clock widget. It bugged the hell out of me for a couple days but now im over it as I have bigger problems to deal with:

Mine is all screwed up that way. I live in Deer Park Wa, but mine will show me in Clayton (11 miles north) Colbert (8 miles East) Chattaroy (10 miles East) or Hayward Ca (two states away). I've put a request in with both HTC and Verizon, but they both say "hey, make sure your location settings are enabled". Duh!
The excuse from HTC is that Verizon doesn't have their towers updated. Verizon says that I need to have a clear view of the sky in all directions, but I can stand in my yard and watch it relocate me to another city.

I've tried disabling each service to see if there is a change. Nothing. If you disable the Google location service, the weather/city thing won't work at all, so I don't know if any of them know how this thing works. It's Magic!

I noticed this early I started Google Maps, once the GPS locked onto my location I checked it again and it was correct.

I have the same issue and still cannot figure out how to fix it. I live in Spring Hill. TN and when at home, it returns Boston as local weather

But, when I am up in Franklin, or out and about, it appears to be working fine.

I had the same problem with Luanda showing up as my city. Showed up last night for my time and weather. When I drove the 20 miles to work this morning the time and city initially changed to the town that I work in but about 10 mins later the time changed back to west africa time, the weather stayed right. The town listed and weather change appropriately as I drove around throughout the day but the time always stayed incorrect. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling and rebooting with no help. When i got home I pulled the battery and let it reboot which fixed the problem. The only problem with doing this is that the battery door is virtually impossible to get off!

I go back and forth from Buffalo, NY to Rochester, NY.

When I'm in Buffalo, the phone frequently thinks I'm in Virginia Beach, VA... for no apparent reason. I don't seem to have this problem when I'm in Rochester's 4G market, just in Buffalo's 3G market.

Mine was doing this the other day. I live in Baltimore and it was showing me weather for Toru, which is in Estonia. I messed around with my GPS settings and it finally went back to normal.

I am having the same issues. Why can't the cities be deleted? I lived in Cincinnati, OH and I get and get the weather for Hambden, OH which is east of Cleveland. Sometimes it is correct.

The tech at the Verizon store was as expected useless and gave me a BS answer and said his Droid Incredible does it as well. This tells me something isn't right with the weather/clock widget.

I put this same question over at XDA-Developers and the only reply I got there did work.

The user suggested turning off all location services, removing the widget form the homescreen. Turn the location services back on and restore the widget. So far I have kept my location on target. Who knows if it gets all weird again I will just delete it and forget it.

Worked for me too!!! I started out the day somewhere in Croatia now I'm back in the good ol' USA.

I tried that on mine, and no dice. It came up immediatly on a city located 8 miles away.

maybe the thunderbolt is so powerful we just don't realize it has pre-cognitive abilities and is telling us where we are going to visit sometime in the future ... according to mine i will be visiting chicago sometime

It's odd that Clayton appears yet you can't set your city to Deer Park. I had the same issue earlier today before trying the posted fix, where it was showing my location as Ione and Newport instead of Colville. Google map shows my location as either Arden or midway to Kettle Falls.

mine gave me the next town over, but that was yesterday, and it seemed to have fixed itself already.

So, I'm going to visit Clayton and Chattaroy? That's not really an upgrade. I guess my phone doesn't aim very high.

Deer Park doesn't show up if you try to add it manually, nor do any of the other cities near me other than Spokane. Maybe someday we'll be important enough to have our own location! ;)

My experience... 2 night ago i couldn't sleep so i was up at 1am. I noticed, however, my phone had changed my location to Warren, MI... ( i'm in central WA)...and my time was of course 3 hours ahead. I tried everything... restart, battery pull, different settings.. etc. Since i use my phone as my alarm i shut of Verizon location services, changed the time zone to pacific and went to bed. Yesterday morning, went to work and called Verizon. While i was on the phone with a very nice rep, the location fixed itself. She said to watch it all day and let them know if it came back. It didn't all day and the whole thing left my mind. Well.....until i was awakened at 3AM!! Turns out i traveled to Warren, MI while i slept. Quite the long drive if ya ask me. Needless to say it screwed up again and i was suddenly on eastern time with no way to get rid of it. So, turned off Verizon location again, reset the timezone and reset the alarm for 6am, PACIFIC TIME. lol Got to work and called Verizon again. ***After a time with the first rep on the phone, i was transfered to a repair tech rep or whatever you call them. She was very nice and we went through settings on the phone which all were correct. She then went to her Supervisor and asked if anybody had heard anything about this problem. Btw, by this time my entire data signal had gone. Even 1X was no longer there. She came back on the line and said that there is a service ticket open on the date problems and then said she was calling HTC. After a couple min, she came back and said that HTC let her know that they have been aware of the location problem and are working towards pushing out an update to hopefully take care of some of these issues. She also said HTC is "not" honoring a warranty of the Thunderbolt based on these issues. Mainly because they are well aware and is not a problem with the phone itself. Not sure if this helps, but i tell ya it's good to know i am not alone. I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO BE AWAKE AT 3AM TOMORROW MORNING!! LOL No offense to Warren, MI..i'm sure it's a nice place. But i'm in WA!

Thanks for that update. I sure hope they can roll out an update to fix this issue. It's only a slightly nagging issue for me, because mine at least stays in the same time zone!
Good luck with 3 AM. That comes early when you're not expecting it.
